The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.

I think it’s really important to remember that if we don’t think about our actions, they control us, and if we think about our actions, we control them. If we don’t think about how we’re driving, we’re driving a car and if we don’t think about how we’re driving, we probably shouldn’t be driving.
So when we were on autopilot we had to do our own work. We were just doing our job and we didn’t have to focus on our actions. If one of us is on autopilot and not thinking about what we’re doing, we will not be doing it.
Think about it, if you are in a position of authority (such as a teacher, police officer, etc) you must be aware of your actions and think about the consequences of your actions. So being on autopilot does not necessarily mean we are not aware of what we are doing, it just means we are not being aware. We are simply not paying attention.
We are all on autopilot. We’re all thinking about what we do, what we say, what we see, what we do, and what we see. We’re all in the same place and are all doing the same thing.
