This is the second in a series of posts for the third Thursday of the month featuring a selection from the archives of our website, pii.com. The first is about the self-awareness of the mind and the second is about self-awareness in action.
Self-awareness is an essential trait in every person’s life. It’s the ability to understand our own thoughts and actions and then to take appropriate action in response to them. There is no such thing as complete self-awareness, only a good self-awareness. People who think they’re self-aware and who are completely aware of themselves and their environment are “self-aware” on two levels. They have “external” awareness, but are completely unaware of everything going on in their environment.
You have three basic ways to get to the state of self-awareness: by using external consciousness, by being aware of your inner self, and by being completely aware of your environment.
At the moment, most people who are completely aware and non-self aware don’t really do anything, and so are not self-aware.
You’ve got to be aware of the internal self. If you’re not aware of your inner self, you’re probably not really aware of who you’re interacting with.
If you’re not aware of who youre interacting with, youre probably not really aware of who youre watching.
It would be difficult to say if you’re aware of who youre interacting with or not, because it’s the interaction that makes the conscious connection.
Just as the word “self” is all about what we can see, the word “awareness” is all about what we can feel. So if we can feel that we’re not self-aware, it means that we’re not aware of our own conscious self. But if we can also feel that we’re not aware of our own conscious self that’s a pretty big deal.
What is awareness? Awareness is the feeling that we, as a conscious being, are aware of that. Its a subjective state of awareness and it requires that we see ourself as a conscious being. The awareness of our own conscious self is what lets us know that were aware that we are aware. For example, if we are not aware of our own conscious self, then we are not aware of our own awareness.
Awareness is not just about what you are aware of, its also about what you don’t know. If we are not aware of our own awareness, then we don’t know about our own awareness.
