We’ve all experienced the feeling of a deep and powerful connection to something that feels very personal, and we’ve all been told that we will never have the experience again. The problem with cliches is that they feel like cliches because it is so easy. If everyone said “I have to go to the gym,” it would be so commonplace that it would be as easy for that phrase to become the default. However, cliches are so common that the only way to make it feel like a cliche is to go and add to it.

I have tried to be as cliche as I can, starting in elementary school by saying I had to be at the gym or that I had to do homework. Then, as I got older, I found that I would start to repeat the phrase, “I have to go to the gym or I have to do homework.” Then I noticed how common that phrase was and I just added to it.
