I often use a 3D visualization tool, sometimes called a Virtual Reality (VR) tool or a “3d tool kit,” for the purpose of doing product design and visualization. My first exposure to the technology began with the movie Avatar. I have since tried many of the options available and have come to the conclusion that the results are usually better, faster, and more intuitive than what you can physically see.

The reason for this is because 3D has become more of an art form these days, not a tech-thing. 3D is the result of combining multiple layers of light, shadow, and color, and that’s just not the same as making a computer render that looks right. You can’t really use a 3D technology to render something that is only visible in 3D, but you can make a 3D product that looks right in 3D.

Our own study of the results of 3d product rendering showed that 3d product rendering can take about 20 seconds to render on a desktop. So that’s about five times the amount of time you’ll spend on rendering a 3D product. Even better, it can also take about an hour or two to render your 3D product. This is why your work is so important.
