10 Myths About HERBS

It’s not easy being a herb. You’re stuck on the sidelines, with no one realizing your hidden potential. Your medicinal purposes are often overlooked or forgotten about completely in favor of those flashy (but far less sustainable) synthetic drugs that show up in commercials and glossy magazines and know things like touching breast reduces stress. And if you don’t get used as food, then you’ll never get to be anything more than an ingredient in some dumb salad that nobody actually wants to eat or a garnish for soup that we only order for appearance’s sake. But it doesn’t have to be this way . . .

1. Your Use Is . . . Hint: It’s Not!

Herbs are used for so many different things that it’s easy to forget what they’re good for in the first place. And sometimes we may not even realize that a herb has potential until someone else points it out or until there’s a particular discovery that makes sense of something that would have otherwise been overlooked. Herb uses go way beyond just making medicine; herbs are used as food and even as perfume. In fact, some herbs can be hard to distinguish from the ones we use to eat or as fragrance, so it makes sense then why we don’t see them put to any other use than medication.

2. You Can’t . . . Hint: You Can!

Some herbs can be difficult to use and require extensive preparation methods, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t. All it means is that we have to be a little inventive and step outside the box a bit in order to take full advantage of their potential. There are medicinal herbs that are easy enough for even the most infirm or young person to use. On the other side of the spectrum are those herbs which require patience and skills—which only makes it more exciting when we finally master them.

3. They’re Not That Important…

Herbs are used for so many different things that it’s easy to forget that they’re also very important in our everyday life. Herbs will forever be a part of our lives because they make sense. They’re sustainable and can easily be used in conjunction with other products we already use . . . unlike synthetic drugs which take decades to break down in our bodies and the environment.

4. You’re Only Good For . . . Hint: It Changes!

Just as with anything else, certain herbs are better for certain things than others, but that doesn’t mean that you should write them off completely as potentially useful just yet. You can use herbs in a number of different scenarios and you can use them at different times in order to get the most out of their potential. And that’s good news because there are some herbs that are so useful and versatile, they look good enough as medicine that they don’t even need to be used as food or fragrance!

5. There’s Nothing You Can Do.

Well, maybe not much. But there is something you can do with certain herbs—and that’s to take advantage of their potential. Remember, you can use herbs for many different things, so there’s definitely a thing or two you can do with them. Just go out and try something new today, and find yourself surrounded by the herbs of tomorrow!

6. It’s All Too Complicated…

Herbs can be complicated and confusing at times, but it doesn’t mean that you have to avoid them entirely. You just have to get used to their methods and find the easiest way possible to take full advantage of their potential. And while sometimes they might take a little more knowledge or tooling (or both), you’ll be able to figure it out on your own eventually if that’s what you want.

7. It’s Too Expensive…

Herbs might be more expensive than other more sophisticated products, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find them for cheaper. Herbs are a lot less expensive than any kind of drug or synthetic product you’ve ever seen, so why not just take advantage of their potential and use them instead?

8. It’s Not That Important… Oh, It Is!

Just like anything else, herbs are important in our lives because they make sense. They’re sustainable and can easily be used in conjunction with other products we already use . . . unlike synthetic drugs which take decades to break down in our bodies and the environment.

9. You Don’t Need This… Oh, You Do!

10. There’s a Difference Between Useful & Useful…

Some herbs can be difficult to use and require extensive preparation methods, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t.

Conclusion:

Maybe that recipe was just too much in the end or maybe they were just too serious about it. Maybe they could tell you some of the new uses herbs have found themselves in lately that you might actually want to use herbs for, but you don’t necessarily know how to go about looking for them. But everyone has a goal and everyone has a way of getting there, so perhaps you might want to look into herb tea and decide which parts of it are possible with your herbs and which parts are actually important to make.

Herbs can be difficult and confusing at times, but it doesn’t mean that you have to avoid them entirely.
